New Delhi, 8 September (IANS). The Ministry of Youth Program and Sports said on Monday that recent reforms in Goods and Services Tax (GST) are in line with Fit India Movement and will promote participation in sports and fitness activities.

According to the ministry, to make healthy lifestyle economical, the government has reduced GST from 18 percent to 5 percent at gym and fitness centers.

The ministry said, “This will make quality fitness facilities more accessible for citizens, especially urban professionals and youth.”

The move will “promote more participation in fitness activities and preventive healthcare, which directly supports the Fit India campaign objectives. By reducing the cost, this improvement will enable more people to adopt healthy lifestyle and build a strong culture of fitness across the country.”

To make environment-friendly transport more accessible and economical for citizens, the government has reduced GST from 12 percent to 5 percent on the bicycle and its parts.

The ministry said, “The move is expected to promote more use of bicycle among students, young professionals and enthusiasts towards fitness, as well as it will promote sustainable and environment-friendly dynamics solutions.”

In addition, reduced the rate of GST from toys to sports goods from 12 percent to 5 percent, it will make the access to ambitious and active players and all youths easier.

This will promote more participation in indoor and outdoor sports and will promote recreational activities between children and youth.

The ministry said, “By making sports goods and toys more economical, these reforms will contribute to strengthening India’s sports ecosystem and will also help in the overall development of the country’s youth power.”

The government has reduced GST from 28 percent to 18 percent on two -wheelers up to 350 cc. This will provide considerable relief to students, young professionals and employees of Gig Economy.

Similarly, reducing GST from 28 percent to 18 percent on small cars will make the budget category vehicles cheaper, which will encourage the first time to invest cars and young families to invest in private transport.
