New Delhi, April 22 (IANS). In today’s busy routine, yoga has become not just an exercise but an art of life. Among the various asanas of yoga, there are some asanas which not only increase physical strength and flexibility, but also strengthen self-confidence and concentration. One of those special asanas is Vrischikasana.
Vrischikasana is made up of two words. ‘Vrischika’ means ‘scorpion’ and ‘asana’ means ‘posture’. While doing this asana, the posture of the body looks like that of a scorpion.
The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India has described Vrischikasana as an advanced level yoga asana. By doing this regularly, there is a wonderful combination of strength, balance and flexibility in the body. In this posture the shape of the body becomes like a scorpion with its sting raised.
If this asana is done correctly, blood circulation in the brain improves, which improves memory and focus. Regular practice reduces stress and increases self-confidence. This asana is also beneficial for the heart, because the blood flow is balanced in the inverted position.
To do this asana, first come into the position of Mayurasana. Place the elbows below the shoulders and hold the ground with the palms. Keep the legs straight while raising the body. Now slowly bend the spine and bring the legs towards the head, so that the toes try to touch the head. Maintain balance and breathe deeply. Hold for 10-20 seconds initially, then gradually increase the time. After exercise, rest in Shavasana or Balasana. Vrischikasana is an advanced asana, hence beginners should do it only under the supervision of a yoga instructor.
This is a very difficult asana. This should be attempted only if you are adept at Pincha Mayurasana. People with high blood pressure, spinal cord injury, or cardiovascular problems should avoid it.
