New Delhi, June 20 (IANS). Preparations are going on for International Yoga Day. The Ministry of AYUSH is fully engaged to make International Yoga Day grand. It was informed by the Ministry of AYUSH that the number of registrations on ‘Yoga Sangam Portal’ has crossed six lakhs. Only from this figure it can be understood how enthusiastic people are to celebrate Yoga Day.
According to the Ministry of AYUSH, organizations across the country will organize yoga sessions together on the basis of ‘Common Yoga Protocol’ (CYP) and practice yoga with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 21.
The ministry described the achievement as evidence of “unprecedented enthusiasm among institutions and communities across the country”. The ministry says that registered organizations are expected to mobilize people at their respective locations and become part of a collective national movement promoting health and overall well-being.
‘Yoga Sangam’ is one of the major initiatives of International Yoga Day 2026. Its objective is that the yoga practice on Yoga Day should not be limited to any one place, but it can also be linked to the national program. The ministry said the ‘Yoga Sangam portal’ has become the “digital backbone of this initiative” by facilitating registration, coordination and participation tracking.
The initiative has now reached all states and union territories in the country and covers 778 districts. Data released by the ministry shows that more than 3.22 lakh government institutions have registered on the portal. Apart from this, about two lakh educational institutions, more than 16,000 private organizations, more than 5,000 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and about 44,000 institutions from other categories have also participated.
Talking about states, West Bengal has seen the highest participation. More than 2.76 lakh organizations have registered in Bengal. After this is Rajasthan, where about 1.50 lakh registrations have been done. A large number of people have also been reported to participate from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
The Ministry of AYUSH has appealed to more organizations and community groups to join this initiative by registering on the ‘Yoga Sangam Portal’. The registration process includes providing organization and contact information, verifying credentials, providing venue information, and obtaining a reference number for participation.
This year’s ‘International Yoga Day’ is being celebrated under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”. The ministry said the growing participation on the Yoga Sangam portal reflects the spirit of ‘Jan Bhagidari’ and India’s collective commitment towards transforming Yoga from a global movement to a community celebration of health and harmony.
“Just 1 day left for International Yoga Day 2026. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said, ‘Healthy people help create a healthy society and yoga ensures this,’ the AYUSH Ministry wrote in a post on social media platform ‘X’. Let us come together to promote this wonderful social service and embrace this year’s theme, ‘Yoga for Healthy Aging’.
