New Delhi, July 25 (IANS). Special importance of seasons has been given in Ayurveda. During the six seasons, there are changes in Vata, Pitta and Kapha doshas, digestive fire and physical strength in the body. Therefore, to stay healthy, it is advisable to change the diet according to the season.
According to the Ministry of AYUSH, the digestive fire naturally becomes weak during the rainy season. This can slow down the digestion of food and increase digestive problems. In such a situation, eating fresh, light and hot food is considered most appropriate.
During the rainy season, digestive power gets affected due to high humidity, cold winds and clouds. The bile accumulated in the body during the summer season can also become unbalanced during this time. In such a situation, there is difficulty in digesting fried, oily and spicy food, which can cause problems like indigestion, gas, bloating, acidity, stomach pain and burning sensation. On the contrary, light food is easily digested and does not put extra burden on the stomach.
Along with providing essential nutrition to the body, light food also protects from lethargy and heaviness. Eating light food during change in weather or at night improves sleep and also helps in controlling weight. According to modern science, in case of weak digestion, light food is better for metabolism.
Consuming moong dal, moong-rice khichdi, wheat or barley porridge and old rice as light food is considered beneficial. Barley (yav), sattu and sago can also be consumed during the rainy season or fasting. It is advisable to consume rotis and especially parathas in limited quantities. Apart from this, boiled or lightly cooked vegetables like bottle gourd, ridge gourd, parwal, tinda, spinach, fenugreek and okra are beneficial. Moong dal, peeled lentils and buttermilk or curd in limited quantity can also be consumed.
According to experts, food should always be fresh, hot and in small quantities. Eating more than required can increase digestive problems. Lukewarm water, ginger tea, cumin water, coconut water and lukewarm milk with turmeric at night are considered beneficial. Consuming buttermilk with dry ginger or cumin can also be beneficial for digestion.
