New Delhi, December 24 (IANS). Due to the busy lifestyle, most of the people are suffering from stress and health related diseases. In such a situation, yoga not only strengthens physical health but also provides mental peace. In this context, ‘Janushirshasana’ not only reduces stress but also makes the body flexible.
Janushirshasana is a Sanskrit word, in which Janu means knee and Shirsha means head. This is a sitting yoga asana, during which the head has to be touched by the knees. Everyone can do this, but people with back pain or pregnant women should exercise caution.
According to the Ministry of AYUSH, Janushirshasana is performed by sitting in Dandasana, with one leg bent, leaning forward keeping the heel close to the perineum and trying to touch the head with the knee, which flexes the body and calms the mind.
This is an effective yoga asana, which reduces stress. Stretches the spine and hamstrings, improves digestion and provides mental peace.
According to Ayurveda, it makes the spine, shoulders, hips and thighs flexible and strong. Also gives relief from back pain.
To do this, sit in Dandasana posture. After this, stretch both the legs forward, keep the spine straight and bend the right leg and keep the heel inside the left thigh. Now exhale and bend forward. Try to hold the toes of the left foot and bring the head towards the left knee. Now pause in this posture as per your capacity and take a deep breath. Then repeat the same on the other side. In the beginning, you can take the help of a strap or pillow to do Janushirshasana.
In the beginning, do it only on the advice of a yoga expert and keep in mind that if you have recently undergone any surgery or are suffering from any serious illness, then you should avoid doing it for a bit or take doctor’s advice before doing it.
