Keep the heart healthy and control blood pressure, benefits of regular practice of Shalabhasha.

New Delhi, April 7 (IANS). In today’s busy life, the importance of yoga is increasing day by day. Yoga not only keeps the body healthy but also provides mental peace. In this sequence, ‘Shalabhasana’ is such an effective yoga asana, which does not cause many health related problems to the body.

Shalabhasana is a Sanskrit word. In this, ‘Shalabh’ means grasshopper and ‘Aasan’ means ‘posture’. That means this asana is a flying posture like a grasshopper. Its regular practice strengthens the muscles of the back, waist and legs. Blood pressure is controlled and heart related problems improve. It also helps in smooth functioning of the heart.

According to the Ministry of AYUSH, Shalabhasana is an important Hatha Yoga asana, which mainly strengthens the muscles of the lower back, spine, thighs and buttocks. It is extremely effective in relieving back pain, improving digestion, increasing lung capacity and reducing belly fat, providing stability to the body and peace to the mind.

This yoga asana can be a bit challenging for beginners as it requires strength and balance of the back, shoulders and legs, but when you learn it slowly and give just 5 minutes every day, the body itself starts supporting you.

To do this, first lie down on your stomach and come into the normal Shalabhasana position, then raise your legs and maintain the balance of the body on the shoulders, chin and arms. In the beginning it is not necessary to take the legs too high, do it as comfortably as possible. Gradually your back muscles will become stronger and flexibility in your legs will increase. When the body gets used to it a bit, then try to balance by raising the legs and bending the knees and try to touch the head with the toes.

People with severe back pain, slipped disc or hernia should avoid it. Do not do if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, or stomach ulcer problems. Pregnant women should not do this asana.
