New Delhi, May 18 (IANS). Do you feel lethargic throughout the day? Does your body feel tired after doing small tasks? Are problems like low energy, stiff back and shoulders, eye strain or physical blockages troubling you? The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India has recommended Ustrasana as a solution to these problems.
Only a few days are left for World Yoga Day. In this series, the Ministry of AYUSH is telling the benefits, method of practice and precautions of new yogas every day. Ustrasana is part of this campaign. Yoga experts say that practicing yoga for a few minutes daily can relieve fatigue, stress and physical weakness. Small changes bring big results.
Ustrasana is very effective in making the spine flexible, chest stretching and strengthening the back. This asana removes stiffness from shoulders and back and reduces fatigue and stress. Its regular practice strengthens the digestive system, keeps the thyroid gland active and provides relief from respiratory problems like asthma. Additionally, it improves self-confidence and mental peace by improving posture.
To practice Ustrasana, sit on your knees and keep your toes backwards. Keep your knees hip-width apart and slowly bend back, placing both hands on your waist. After this, place your hands on the heels and lift the chest forward and look towards the ceiling by bending the neck backwards. Stay in this posture for a few seconds and then become normal. In the beginning, practice only for 10-20 seconds. Later gradually increase the time.
Take some precautions during this period. Do not do this asana if you have serious injury or problem in your back, neck, knees or shoulders. People with high or low blood pressure should do so only after consulting a doctor. Pregnant women and people with serious illness should practice under expert guidance. Keep breathing normal, do not bend forcefully.
