New Delhi, July 12 (IANS). Migraine pain is different from normal headache. In this, severe pain may be felt in one part of the head, which persists for several hours. Medicines are the main way to treat this problem, but scientific research also shows that some natural remedies can help reduce symptoms. Celery is also included in these home remedies.
Migraine is a neurological problem. In this, there is a change in the nerves of the brain and the chemicals associated with them, due to which the process of pain starts. Sometimes this pain can last from 4 hours to 72 hours. In some people, hormonal changes, stress, being hungry, drinking less water or certain foods can also trigger migraine. This is the reason why not only medicine, but also improvement in lifestyle is considered equally important in the treatment of migraine.
The most important element in celery is thymol. According to research, thymol has properties that reduce inflammation, fight bacteria and reduce the intensity of pain. When inflammation increases in the body, it can sometimes increase migraine pain. In such a situation, thymol can help in controlling the inflammatory process. Although it is not a cure for migraine, it may be helpful in reducing the intensity of pain in some people.
Even in Ayurveda, celery has been described as improving digestion and balancing vata-kapha. There is a deep connection between the digestive system and the brain. This is called the gut-brain connection. In many people, problems like gas, indigestion and flatulence can increase migraine. Celery helps improve digestion and reduce gas. When the digestive system remains normal, some migraine triggers may also be reduced.
The antioxidants present in celery are also considered beneficial for the body. According to scientists, oxidative stress can affect cells. Antioxidants help in reducing the effects of these harmful elements. For this reason, it is believed that celery can be helpful in controlling stress and inflammation in the body to some extent.
Many people use hot celery bundle during migraine. For this, lightly heated celery is tied in a cotton cloth and its steam or aroma is taken. Its strong aroma is believed to relax the respiratory tract through the nose and may reduce the feeling of heaviness in the head in many people. However, this method should not be considered a treatment option.
Some people also drink celery water. A drink prepared by boiling celery in water can help improve digestion. If a person’s migraine is associated with gas, indigestion or stomach upset, this method may provide some relief. However, it is not necessary that it will have the same effect on every person. The causes of migraine can be different for everyone.
