New Delhi, May 15 (IANS). Nature has given many such fruits and flowers, which are no less than a boon not only for taste but also for health. One such summer fruit is mulberry, which is not only delicious but is also very beneficial for health. Its scientific name is Morus Indica.

The Forest, Climate and Environment Department of the Government of Bihar informs about the benefits of consuming mulberry. This tree is a unique combination of taste and health. The juicy fruits of mulberry are eaten, but its leaves are also rich in nutrients and are the foundation of the silk industry. Mulberry is a fast-growing medium-sized tree, typically reaching a height of 10 to 15 metres.

Its fruits are very juicy and sweet. These may be white, pink or dark purple in color. Along with taste, these fruits are also full of medicinal properties. Apart from eating them fresh, people also use them in juice, jelly, jam and dried form.

Vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber are found in abundance in mulberry fruits. These fruits are considered effective in purifying blood, improving digestion, removing anemia and increasing immunity. Mulberry has been used for centuries in Ayurveda and folk medicine.

Mulberry leaves are not only food for silkworms, but they also contain many nutrients. These leaves are used as tea, powder and vegetable. The leaves are rich in protein, iron, calcium and antioxidants. Their consumption is beneficial in controlling blood sugar and reducing cholesterol.

Along with health and taste, mulberry tree is also the basis of silk industry. Silkworms produce silk by eating these leaves. Mulberry cultivation is done on a large scale in India, which also becomes a source of employment in rural areas. The bark of this tree is dark brown and rough. The tree is also very useful for the environment as it grows rapidly and helps keep the soil strong.
