New Delhi, March 21 (IANS). During these nine days of Chaitra Navratri, devotees observe fast along with worshiping Goddess Durga. During fasting, the body needs energy and nutrition, but heavy food also has to be avoided. In such a situation, lemon water is an easy to make, natural and healthy option, which not only quenches thirst during fasting, but also provides many health benefits.

The Ministry of AYUSH of the Government of India also describes this home remedy as very beneficial. Drinking a glass of lukewarm water with fresh lemon squeezed in it in the morning on an empty stomach proves to be a boon for the body. Lemon is rich in Vitamin C, antioxidants and citric acid, which strengthens immunity. There is a risk of body becoming weak during fasting days, but taking lemon water regularly protects from cold, fatigue and infection.

During fasting, problems like flatulence, gas, indigestion and constipation can often occur. But lukewarm lemon water keeps the digestive system active, reduces acidity and cleans the intestines. With this, the fast is completed easily and the body feels light. It also helps in detoxifying the liver. During fasting, the toxins accumulated in the body are released, due to which the liver remains healthy and energy is maintained. Lemon water is also helpful in weight control. Lukewarm lemon water increases metabolism, helps burn fat and controls appetite. By continuing this even after fasting, the weight remains balanced. It is also a panacea for the skin. Drinking less water during fasting can cause dry skin. Vitamin C and antioxidants present in lemon reduce acne, blemishes and make the face glowing. With regular consumption the skin looks young and healthy.

The method of making lemonade is also easy. For this, squeeze half a lemon in a glass of lukewarm water. You can add some honey for taste, but do not add sugar at all. Do not take very hot water, use only lukewarm water. You can drink it with fruits during fasting or 2-3 times a day.
