Not losing weight even after hard work? Better sleep will help

New Delhi, November 10 (IANS). If you are not able to lose weight despite sweating in the gym and following a strict diet, then the answer may be hidden in your sleep.

Celebrity nutritionist Pooja Makhija says that the biggest change will come only through sleep.

Research shows that sleeping early and getting complete sleep increases insulin sensitivity, reduces the hunger-inducing hormone ghrelin and accelerates the fat burning process in the body.

According to the National Library of Science of the American National Institute of Health, today humans are deprived of better sleep. A hundred years ago people used to sleep for an average of nine hours, but now we are able to sleep only for six and a half hours. Nearly thirty percent of adults sleep less than six hours a night.

The 24-hour economy, continuous work, mobile phones and TV have completely disrupted the natural cycle of sleep. Due to this, the body’s metabolism and hormonal balance gets disturbed. The hunger-inducing hormone ghrelin increases, while the hunger-suppressing hormone leptin decreases. As a result, people eat more, especially sweets and junk food. Due to this, insulin does not work properly, blood sugar increases and the risk of diabetes also increases.

Obesity is also spreading rapidly because metabolism slows down and calories are not burned. However, poor diet and less exercise are also responsible, but lack of sleep makes these diseases serious.

According to Pooja Makhija, seven to eight hours of deep sleep resets the body, controls appetite and prevents obesity and diabetes. The surprising thing is that only five to ten percent of people are able to control their weight for a long time through diet and exercise. For the rest, sleep is the real key.
