Hyderabad, May 11 (IANS). School students of Telangana will take a collective oath to stay away from tobacco, alcohol and drugs. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Lok Bhawan on Monday night and invited him to the student conference to be organized on the occasion of reopening of schools on June 12.

During this event, the government will administer a mass oath to the students, urging them to stay away from tobacco, alcohol and drugs and behave as responsible citizens.

Earlier, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla had suggested to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy that students should be administered the drug-free oath.

As per the suggestion of the Governor, the State Government is organizing a massive gathering of students to take the oath of de-addiction.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also informed the Governor that kits containing uniforms, textbooks, notebooks, school bags, sports equipment and other essential materials would be distributed to the students on the same day.

The Chief Minister apprised the Governor that school and college managements would issue instructions to ensure constant monitoring of students to protect them from drug addiction and other addictions.

The mass swearing-in ceremony and other related activities are being jointly organized under the aegis of the School Education Department, Police Department and Anti-Drug Force Eagle.

This initiative emphasizes the collective responsibility of students, teachers, parents and management in maintaining a safe and drug-free environment in educational institutions.

Earlier, the Chief Minister participated in the inaugural program of the Education Week under ‘Praja Palan-Pragati Samishteka’, a 99-day action plan focused on speedy governance, delivery of welfare services and development initiatives.

The Chief Minister visited the stalls set up under the program at LB Stadium.

He laid the foundation stone of Young India Integrated School to be constructed at a cost of Rs 1,011 crore in QRE area.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also distributed cash awards to government teachers for excellent services and students for academic excellence.

The Chief Minister, who is also holding the charge of the Education Ministry, announced his mission to strengthen the education sector by implementing the new education policy and several initiatives. These initiatives include increasing the education budget every year, starting education from nursery to class 12 in government schools and providing breakfast to students in all government educational institutions.

The Chief Minister said that the government has allocated 8 percent of the state budget for education.

This allocation will increase every year and will reach 15 percent of the total budget in the coming years.

He stressed that government schools should be strengthened so that they can compete with private institutions.
