Peepal is not just a tree, know its religious importance, medicinal properties and environmental benefits here

New Delhi, March 13 (IANS). Peepal leaves, rich in medicinal properties, are used to deal with many problems. Properties like antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antifungal are found in it.

According to religious belief, 33 crore gods and goddesses reside in the Peepal tree. At the same time, the Peepal tree is also home to many types of birds and creatures. This tree not only provides shade, it also releases oxygen during the day as well as at night, which is very important for reducing pollution and for the ecosystem.

In Charak Samhita and Sushruta Samhita, it has been told about the medicinal properties of Peepal that by using its different parts like leaves to bark, relief can be found in many problems like fever, asthma, cough, skin diseases.

According to Sushruta Samhita, drinking water of peepal leaves in the morning on an empty stomach activates digestive enzymes and improves the digestion process. Also, if you are troubled by problems like ringworm, scabies, itching, then grinding Peepal leaves and applying it on that area relieves the skin related problems. Besides, it also helps in healing cracked heels. By applying the milk extracted from Peepal leaves on cracked heels, they heal within a few days and the heels become soft.

If a wound forms on the skin after an injury, then applying paste of peepal leaves on it can be beneficial. The antiseptic properties present in Peepal leaves prevent infection. Due to this, the wound heals quickly and the risk of infection is reduced.

According to Charak Samhita, Peepal leaves contain elements which help in preventing the increase in blood sugar level in the body. Besides, it is also helpful in controlling blood pressure and strengthening the heart muscles. The antioxidants and other medicinal properties present in Peepal leaves help in keeping the heart healthy.
