Mumbai, May 28 (IANS). A major case of medical fraud has come to light from Daund, Maharashtra, where a fake doctor, who was practicing medicine illegally, has been arrested. Giving information about the case on Thursday, police said that medicines, injections and cash worth Rs 6.54 lakh have been seized from him.
The accused has been identified as Omprakash Bansilal Swarnakar, who had started an illegal clinic in Akhadewasti area of Kasuri village of Yavat without any valid medical degree, registration with Maharashtra Medical Council and license to sell medicines.
Police said that the accused is a resident of Sadar Bazar of Hurra tehsil of Bhilwara district of Rajasthan.
This illegal business was busted after police personnel raided the clinic. During the raid, allopathic medicines, injections, syringes of various companies, liquids filled in suspicious unlabelled bottles and cash were recovered from the spot.
The seized items included medicines of Cipla, Intas and Leeford companies, 381 suspicious bottles, syringes and Rs 85,100 in cash. Police also seized a Honda City car parked outside the clinic, in which additional stock of medicines was found.
Based on the complaint lodged by Dr Ashish Shankar Shirase of the Primary Health Center in Khamgaon area of Daund, a case has been registered against the accused under Section 319(2) of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS) 2023 and Sections 33(1) and 33(2) of the Medical Practice Act, 1961.
Initial investigation revealed that the accused was misleading people by practicing medicine illegally and putting the lives of patients at risk. Further investigation is being done by Yavat police.
Earlier, 3 doctors working at ‘Sanjeevani Clinic’ operated under the National Health Mission were arrested by the police in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh.
According to the police, on May 16, the Kotwali police station had received an investigation report from the office of the Chief Medical and Health Officer.
The report said that Kumar Sachin Yadav, resident of Gwalior, and Rajpal Gaur, resident of Sehore, had submitted fake and fabricated MBBS degrees, Medical Council Registration Certificate and other educational documents to get appointment at Sanjeevani Clinic located in Subhash Colony, Damoh.
