New Delhi, June 4 (IANS). With increasing age, many health problems start troubling us, but with regular practice of yoga, these can be overcome to a great extent. The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India has advised to include Sarvangasana i.e. shoulder stand in your daily routine for a healthy life in old age.
The theme Yoga for Healthy Aging is being adopted on the occasion of World Yoga Day 2026. The aim of the ministry is to make people understand that yoga is not only beneficial for the youth but also for people of all ages, especially the elderly. By adopting activities like Sarvangasana, one can remain healthy even in old age.
This asana proves helpful in reducing digestive problems and keeping the endocrine system of the body balanced. Sarvangasana is considered one of the important postures of yoga. In this the body is turned upside down on the shoulders. This asana activates the thyroid gland, thereby maintaining hormonal balance. Besides, it is also helpful in removing stomach problems like constipation, indigestion and gas.
Not only this, it is also a good way to improve blood circulation and supply oxygen to the brain. Yoga experts believe that healthy aging is not limited to physical activity only, but is related to maintaining the internal balance of the body. If we adopt small good habits today, we can ensure a healthy and active old age in the years to come. Regular yoga practice prevents weakness, fatigue and many chronic diseases that come with ageing.
However, in the beginning it is important to learn this asana correctly. Practicing under the supervision of experts reduces the risk of injury. Include it in your daily routine with the advice of yoga experts, especially those who have neck, back problems or high blood pressure.
