New Delhi, December 25 (IANS). In today’s time, many people are spending thousands of rupees on different multivitamin and mineral pills for good health, but do you know that there is one thing present in our kitchen which is a powerhouse of multivitamin and minerals.
We are talking about sesame seeds. Ayurveda calls it ‘Maha-Aushadhi’ and in modern science it has been called ‘nutrient dense superfood’. The nutrients present in sesame are bio-available to the body. Because of this, your body absorbs them easily and immediately. For example, 100 grams of white sesame seeds contain about 975 mg of calcium, which is more than a glass of milk. Calcium is very important for bones and joints and sesame fulfills it in a natural way.
Apart from this, it also contains iron and copper in abundance, which is more beneficial than any iron tonic in making blood and removing anemia.
Sesame is an excellent source of protein for youth going to the gym or building muscles. Apart from this, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc and manganese are also present in abundance in it. All these minerals fulfill a good part of our daily needs. Sesame also contains elements like sesamin and sesamolin, which help in reducing bad cholesterol, protects the heart and liver and keeps blood pressure under control in a natural way.
Black sesame is considered more beneficial than white sesame in Ayurveda. It removes weakness of nerves, prevents premature graying of hair and maintains mental happiness and freshness. Sesame oil contains natural SPF, which protects the skin from sun rays. Chewing sesame seeds on an empty stomach in the morning keeps teeth and gums strong and teeth remain stable even after ageing.
An easy way to take advantage of sesame seeds is to lightly roast it and eat it. Raw sesame seeds contain some phytates, which hinder the absorption of nutrients, but after roasting, every mineral dissolves easily in the body. You can eat sesame seeds in salad, laddu, khichdi or by chewing directly.
