Shiny grains of corn can become a threat to your stomach, these signs will help in identifying

New Delhi, March 9 (IANS). Be it children or adults, everyone likes corn during the summer season. But nowadays many chemicals and preservatives are used in the market to make the corn more attractive and fresh for a longer period. This not only makes a difference in taste, but it also causes stomach ache, allergies and sometimes serious health problems, hence it is very important to identify the corn.

First of all, it is important to check the color and shine of the corn kernels. Natural corn kernels are light yellow and have a matte finish. Be careful if the corn kernels appear unusually shiny and uniform. This may be a sign that some kind of chemicals or preservatives have been used to keep them looking fresh longer.

The smell of the corn can also be a method of identification. Freshness and naturalness is evident from the light earthy aroma of the corn. If you smell a strong or chemical smell, the corn is not safe. Sometimes chemicals cause a slight odor, which is not present in natural corn. Therefore it is better to avoid buying it.

The condition of the corn leaves also indicates safety. The green leaves of true corn may be slightly dry or yellow and have some natural wrinkling. At the same time, if the leaves look completely shiny, then it may be a sign that some chemical has been applied to the corn to store it for a longer period or to make it look attractive.

The texture of the grains is also important. Fresh corn kernels are light, soft and rich in milky juice. If the kernels are very hard or unusually hard, it may be the result of old corn or chemical treatment. Such corns are bland in taste and harmful for digestion, hence while purchasing, the grains should be checked by pressing them lightly.
