New Delhi, June 12 (IANS). Only a few days are left for International Yoga Day. On this occasion, to make people aware about Yoga, the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India is continuously sharing information about many Yogasanas. In this context, the Ministry has described ‘Saral Dhanurasana’ as an effective yoga asana, which along with keeping the body active, helps in making the spine flexible.
Regular exercise can make a person feel more physically and mentally healthy. According to yoga experts, due to sitting and working for long hours in the modern lifestyle, people have to face many problems related to back and spine. In such a situation, simple Dhanurasana works to stretch the back part of the body and helps in strengthening the muscles. This asana is considered helpful in increasing the circulation of energy in the body and also in reducing mental stress.
To do this asana, first of all one has to lie down on a flat surface on the stomach. After this, keeping the forehead on the ground, bend both the knees and hold the ankles with hands. Then, taking a deep breath, the head, chest and knees are slowly raised. During this, by pulling the legs upwards with the help of hands, the body forms a bow-like shape. After remaining in this position for a few moments, one should slowly return to normal position while exhaling and the body should be relaxed.
Experts say that one should not hurry while practicing this asana. It is more beneficial to practice slowly according to the body’s capacity. If a person has severe back pain, spine problem or other health related problem, then it should be practiced only after consulting a yoga instructor.
