New Delhi, January 20 (IANS). In today’s fast-paced life, health has become the biggest issue. Wrong eating habits, irregular daily routine, stress and lack of physical activity have a direct impact on our digestive and respiratory problems. Gas, indigestion, flatulence and frequent hiccups have now become common problems.
Hiccups are a natural function of our body, but when it starts happening frequently or for a long time, it should not be ignored. According to experts, hiccups occur when the diaphragm suddenly contracts and obstructs the breathing process. The biggest reason for this is the digestive system not functioning properly. Eating too much, eating too fast, fried or heavy food, excessive consumption of alcohol, stress, nervousness and sometimes excessive excitement also increase hiccups.
Five types of vayu have been described inside the body in yoga scriptures, out of which apana vayu is related to the lower part of the stomach. This air works for defecation, removal of gas and removal of toxic elements from the body. When Apana Vayu becomes unbalanced, problems like gas, constipation, indigestion and hiccups start occurring. Apana Vayu Mudra is designed to balance this Vayu. This posture gives the right direction to the internal energy of the body and strengthens the digestive system.
Apana Vayu Mudra is very easy to do. This can be done by sitting on the floor or sitting directly on a chair. First of all, the spine is kept straight so that energy can flow properly in the body. The eyes are closed and deep and slow breathing is taken for some time. After this, mudra is made with the fingers of the hands. The index finger is bent, the middle and ring fingers are joined to the thumb and the little finger is kept straight. In this situation, attention is paid to breathing with a calm mind.
When small-looking hiccups do not stop, it troubles the person mentally and physically. Yoga and Ayurveda are the safest way to solve such problems. According to the Ministry of AYUSH, Apana Vayu Mudra is very beneficial in hiccups and digestive problems.
According to the Ministry of AYUSH, when this mudra is done, special energy points of the body are activated through the fingers of the hands. This creates a balance between the stomach and chest and the diaphragm starts relaxing. This is why hiccups gradually stop on their own. This posture helps in releasing the gas trapped in the stomach and improves digestion.
The benefits of Apana Vayu Mudra are not limited to hiccups only. Regular practice provides relief from stomach related diseases, such as gas, acidity and constipation. This posture is also considered beneficial for the heart, because it improves blood circulation. Mental stress reduces and the mind remains calm. By doing this mudra while breathing properly, the body’s immunity becomes stronger and the body becomes capable of protecting itself from diseases.
