Sudden distortion of face is a sign of face stroke, know Ayurvedic remedy

New Delhi, October 11 (IANS). If suddenly your face becomes crooked, part of the lips or eyes stops moving or the face tilts to one side while smiling, then it can be a sign of face stroke. In Ayurveda it is called Ardhang Vayurog. In this, the facial nerve gets affected and the muscles on one side of the face become loose.

The main causes of face stroke include imbalance of Vata dosha, cold air, irregular daily routine, stress and excessive physical exertion. Apart from this, obstruction of blood flow in the veins, viral infection, diabetes, high BP, stroke or lack of sleep can also be responsible.

It can be identified by bending of the face to one side, inability to release air from the lips, inability to close the eyes completely, loss of taste, numbness, tingling and unclear speech.

Many remedies have been suggested in Ayurveda to cure it. First of all Abhyanga (oil massage) is extremely beneficial. Light massage with Maha Narayan oil, sesame oil or Dashmool oil improves blood flow and activates the muscles. Massage should be done for 10-15 minutes daily in the morning or before bath. The second solution is Nasya treatment, in which putting 2 drops of Anutailam or Shadvindu oil in both the nostrils increases the blood flow to the brain and strengthens the nerves. Swedana i.e. steam therapy opens the tight nerves and reduces numbness.

In severe cases, the nerves can be revived by adding Panchakarma therapy like Basti (medicinal enema), Shirodhara and Nasya. Additionally, herbal medicines like Ashwagandha Churna, Rasnadi Kashaya, Yogaraja Guggulu and Balarishta help in increasing the strength of nerves and reducing inflammation.

Yoga and pranayam are also useful. Oral exercises like smiling, puffing lips, closing and opening eyes, Bhramari Pranayam and Anulom-Vilom increase blood flow and activity of nerves. The throne activates the facial muscles.

Apart from this, include hot, fresh and easily digestible food in your diet. Include moong dal, ghee, milk, sesame, almonds, green vegetables, ginger, garlic and turmeric. Do not eat cold things, ice, cold drinks, junk food and excess spices or oily foods. Lightly massage your face with lukewarm water, drink the decoction of ginger and basil twice a day, get enough sleep and keep stress low.
