New Delhi, October 22 (IANS). The spinal cord is considered the basis of the body, because it is the center of energy of the body and helps in performing every function of the body.
But in today’s lifestyle one has to sit in front of the computer for hours or work while standing for a long time, due to which the spine gets affected the most. If there is any kind of problem in the spinal cord and the body is not able to function properly. In such a situation, yoga and good diet can be taken to keep the spine flexible and healthy.
In Ayurveda the spinal cord is called Merudand. It starts from the neck and goes till the hips and works to support the body. Its length is 45 centimeters and it is made up of 33 small bones. Its main function is to provide movement and support to the body, to be a medium of communication between the mind and body and to keep the body parts running smoothly. If there is any problem in the spine then problems like arthritis, paralysis, spondylosis, cervical spondylitis, slip disc, muscle pain and cramps can occur.
In such a situation, the spine can be strengthened by doing some yoga asanas and Ayurvedic remedies. There are many yoga asanas to strengthen the spine, which can be done daily. For this, you can do Kapalbhati, Pranayama, Balasana, Simhasana, Marjari Asana, Tadasana and Naukasana. All these yoga asanas increase blood circulation in the veins passing through the spinal cord and also make it flexible, so that every function of the body can be performed properly.
Apart from this, there are treatments like Merudand Vasti in Ayurveda, which strengthen the spine through massage with the help of herbal oils. Massaging reduces muscle stiffness and improves blood circulation. The spine can also be taken care of through good diet. For this, eat food full of protein and calcium and consume fiber rich fruits. For this, dry fruits, juice fruits and coarse grains can be eaten. Also keep taking a good dose of omega fatty acids. This strengthens the spine and the body is able to absorb adequate amounts of calcium.
