New Delhi, May 25 (IANS). Amidst the increasing heat and heatwave across the country, people are turning to traditional drinks to cool the body. Rajasthan’s famous Imli Pana is also one such desi drink, which is considered very beneficial for taste as well as health.
Prepared from sour tamarind, jaggery, mint and spices, this drink cools the body instantly and helps in protecting from heat stroke. Tamarind Pana has been made in Rajasthan during the summer season for years. Even in Ayurveda, it is considered a drink that keeps body temperature balanced. The natural elements used in it do not allow water deficiency in the body and also keeps the digestive system better.
According to experts, the nutrients present in tamarind help in cooling the body. At the same time, black salt and roasted cumin keep digestion healthy. Mint gives freshness to the body and jaggery works to increase energy. This is the reason why this traditional drink is becoming the first choice of people in the scorching heat.
Making tamarind panna is also very easy. To prepare this, two tablespoons of tamarind is soaked in hot water for some time so that it becomes soft. After this the tamarind is crushed and its juice is extracted. Then jaggery or sugar candy, black salt, roasted cumin powder and a little black pepper powder are added to it. To enhance the taste, cold water and ice are added to it. It is served with fresh mint leaves on top.
Due to continuous sweating in summer, the body starts deficient in water and essential minerals. In such a situation, tamarind leaves help in keeping the body hydrated. It not only cools the body but also removes fatigue and weakness.
