Chennai, July 14 (IANS). Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran has launched a scathing attack on the Vijay government over reports of multiple patients being kept on the same bed in the emergency ward of the government-owned Stanley Medical College Hospital in Chennai. He described the situation as ‘extremely condemnable’ and accused the administration of failing to ensure basic health facilities.

“Such conditions in one of the premier government hospitals in Tamil Nadu reveal serious administrative lapses and raise concerns over the way public healthcare is handled by the government,” Nainar Nagendran wrote in the ‘X’ post.
According to Nagendran, the reason for the increase in crowd is the ongoing renovation work in the hospital, due to which patients from different sections were shifted to the same block. He alleged that the situation revealed ‘administrative disarray’ within the health department and questioned why proper alternative arrangements were not made before starting the renovation work.
Comparing it to the State Secretariat, the BJP leader asked whether the government would confine all ministers to a single room if renovation work was done there. He argued that such an approach would never be accepted in government offices and said that patients in government hospitals deserve the same level of planning and attention.
Nagendran also questioned whether the Joseph Vijay-led government understood the basic needs of patient care, including providing adequate ventilation and beds for those undergoing treatment. He further alleged that the government seems to be treating people dependent on government hospitals like second-class citizens.
The BJP leader claimed that just as the previous DMK government was criticized for neglecting government hospitals and economically weaker sections, the current TVK-led government should not be allowed to continue the same attitude of indifference towards public healthcare institutions.
Nagendran urged CM Vijay and Health Minister Arun Raj to ensure that patients at the Stanley Government Hospital get adequate basic facilities. They specifically called for improved bed capacity, clean and accessible toilets, safe drinking water and other essential infrastructure to guarantee dignified treatment to patients dependent on the state-run healthcare system. The Tamil Nadu government has not yet given any official response to Nagendran’s allegations.
