The habit of eating frequently or being hungry can be dangerous, know what is ‘eating disorder’

Is your plate itself taking away your strength? Keep distance from these things from today

New Delhi, May 30 (IANS). In today’s busy life, the desire to look fit and have a perfect body sometimes pushes people towards such habits, which can gradually have a serious impact on mental and physical health. One such problem is eating disorder, which is usually ignored considering it to be normal dieting or eating habits.

Health experts say that this is not just a problem related to food, but a disorder deeply related to the emotions, confidence and mental state of the person. It is very important to recognize its signs in time and seek proper help, so that its serious consequences can be avoided.

National Health Mission (NHM) has issued an important message to make people aware about eating disorders. According to the mission, eating disorder is not a simple eating habit but it is a silent battle in which a person is moving away from himself. Many people lose their smile, peace and confidence while counting calories.

In such a situation, the Mission appeals to the common people that it is not necessary that every thin looking person is healthy. Before judging someone, give some understanding and love. NHM has also posted an awareness video on the official Instagram, in which Dr. Lakshmi Sravanthi of NIMHANS Bengaluru was seen giving detailed information. Dr. Lakshmi Shravanthi is Assistant Professor in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

He said, eating disorders are serious mental health conditions in which a person’s relationship with food and his body image becomes unhealthy. This problem can occur at any age, but is seen more in youth.

The main causes of eating disorders include societal pressure (to be thin or look a certain way), lack of self-confidence, mood swings or emotional ups and downs, bullying regarding weight or appearance, excessive dieting or frequent skipping meals.

According to health experts, this problem is not just about food. In this the person also goes through emotional distress, shame and guilt. Many times a person feels like punishing himself. Due to this, along with physical health, mental health is also badly affected. In eating disorders, a person’s weight may increase or decrease significantly. Some people become afraid of food while others keep eating again and again. If this problem is not recognized in time, it can lead to serious health problems like malnutrition, heart problems, bone weakness and even life-threatening.
