New Delhi, 6 November (IANS). Activating the body’s own healing power through nature is called naturopathy. Its biggest principle is that our body has the ability to heal itself, all it needs is the right environment and time.
Therapeutic fasting is based on this principle. This is not fasting or weakening the body, but a balanced fast, which makes the body clean and strong from inside.
When we keep eating continuously, the body has to spend a lot of energy in digestion. But when we stop eating for some time, the same energy is used to repair, clean the body and create new cells. This is called cellular regeneration or cell renewal. During this, the body expels the accumulated toxins, which reduces inflammation and improves the immune system.
Therapeutic fasting helps in hormonal balance in women, helps in controlling problems like PCOS and also improves mood and mental health.
Research has also shown that fasting has positive effects on blood sugar levels, blood pressure and cholesterol, meaning it can be a natural adjunctive treatment for conditions such as metabolic syndrome.
In Naturopathy it is said that illness is not an external enemy, but a signal from the body that it needs rest. When we fast, the body gets rest at every level, from digestion to mental peace. Additionally, it activates the body’s natural healing system.
However, therapeutic fasting should always be done under the supervision of a trained naturopathic doctor. Every person’s body is different, so the duration and method of fasting may also be different.
