These small daily habits can protect the kidneys from major diseases.

New Delhi, December 19 (IANS). There are many organs in our body which silently work continuously to maintain our health. Kidney is also one such organ. Most of the people talk about heart, brain or lungs, but the importance of kidney is understood when any problem starts in it. If the kidneys do not function properly, the entire body gradually becomes weak.

In such a situation, it is very important to understand and take care of the kidney.

Kidneys work like filters in our body. It purifies the blood, filters out dirty and poisonous substances from the body and removes them through urine. Apart from this, kidneys maintain the correct balance of water, salt and other essential minerals in the body. If this balance gets disturbed, swelling, fatigue, weakness and many diseases can occur.

In Ayurveda, kidney has been called ‘Vrikka’. Ayurveda believes that the kidneys are connected to the energy and strength of the body. If the kidneys remain healthy, then the water balance in the body is maintained, the blood remains clean and the toxic elements of the body are eliminated properly, due to which the person feels more active, less tired and healthy.

The biggest problem with kidney diseases is that their symptoms are not clearly visible in the beginning. Many times a person feels absolutely normal, but internally the kidneys are getting damaged. When symptoms like excessive fatigue, swelling in hands and feet, frequent or very little urination are seen, the kidneys have already suffered a lot of damage. Therefore, it is the wisest step to protect the kidneys before they become sick.

To keep the kidneys healthy, the first requirement is to eat right food. Too much fried, packaged and outside food puts pressure on the kidneys. Food like fruits, vegetables, pulses, rice, roti and small amount of milk or curd provide essential nutrition to the body. Eating too much salt, sweets and junk food increases blood pressure, which can damage the kidneys.

Drinking water is also very important for the kidneys. By drinking enough water, the dirt gets removed from the body easily and the risk of kidney stones is reduced. Alcohol, soft drinks, and very sweet drinks can harm the kidneys, so it is better to stay away from them.

Body activities are also related to kidney health. A little exercise or playing every day is beneficial for the body. This keeps blood pressure under control, does not increase weight and reduces the risk of diabetes. These three things are considered the biggest enemies of the kidneys.

Yoga, brisk walking, cycling, or being active for 30 minutes every day keeps the kidneys healthy.

Besides this, stress also harms the body. Worrying too much can increase blood pressure, which affects the kidneys. Therefore, it is important to sleep on time, be happy, breathe deeply and keep the mind calm.
