New Delhi, 6 November (IANS). Be it yoga or pranayam, they have solutions to many problems. In such a situation, when it comes to stress, insomnia or other mental problems, Bhramari Pranayam is very beneficial.
The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, states that the practice of Bhramari Pranayam is beneficial not only for people suffering from mental problems but also for students.
According to the ministry, the word ‘Bhramari’ is derived from ‘Bhramar’, which means bumblebee. The sound emitted in this pranayam is like the hum of a bumblebee, hence it is called Bhramari Pranayam. This calming pranayama is extremely effective in reducing stress, anxiety, anger and mental hyperactivity.
Experts say that the resonant effect of the bumblebee-like sound affects the brain and nervous system. It can prove useful in relieving stress related disorders like insomnia, high blood pressure and stress. Regular practice improves concentration and provides excellent preparation for beginning meditation.
The method of doing Bhramari Pranayam is simple. Sit in Padmasana or Sukhasana in a quiet place. Keep your spine straight and close your eyes. Cover both the ears with thumbs, place the index fingers on the forehead, the remaining fingers on the eyes and take a deep breath through the nose. While exhaling, make ‘hmm’ sound from the throat. Breathe normally after completing one cycle. Repeat 5-7 cycles. Do it in the morning or evening on an empty stomach.
The list of benefits of practicing Bhramari is also long. This provides relief from stress, anxiety and anger. It calms the nerves of the brain and provides relief from headache and migraine. It controls blood pressure and relieves insomnia. Enhances concentration and memory. Not only this, it also strengthens immunity.
