New Delhi, December 29 (IANS). Ayurveda has been using medicines to keep the body and mind healthy for hundreds of years. One such wonderful medicine is ‘Pippali’, which is also known as long black pepper. It is famous not only as a spice but also for its medicinal properties. Its hot nature and pungent taste make it beneficial for many diseases of the body.
Pippali has many properties. The first and foremost quality is that it increases digestion power. Pippali proves to be very beneficial in problems like stomach weakness, gas, indigestion and acidity. It contains elements that help in digesting food quickly and properly by activating the drains of the stomach. In Ayurveda, it has been called agnivardhak, that is, it strengthens the fire of the body and nourishes it.
Pippali is beneficial for the respiratory system. Pippali provides relief in diseases like cough, cold, cough and asthma. It helps in expelling the phlegm accumulated in the lungs. In Ayurveda it is considered a breath enhancer and expectorant. Its regular consumption increases the functioning of the lungs.
It improves the immune system. Pippali strengthens the body’s immunity. It contains antioxidants and antibacterial elements that help the body fight infections. Pippali is used to prevent cold, cough or viral infections in winter.
Pippali is also considered beneficial for heart and blood circulation. It increases blood circulation and supplies energy to the body. Also, it removes weakness of the body and gives strength.
Apart from this, Pippali is also beneficial in controlling diabetes, thyroid and weight. It keeps the metabolism in the body balanced and helps in reducing fat.
The process of using Pippali is also simple. It can be chewed in dry form or made into a powder and taken with warm water or milk. In Ayurveda, it is recommended to be taken by mixing it with other herbs like Ashwagandha or cinnamon. However, before consuming it, definitely consult a doctor or Ayurvedic expert.
