Blood Cancer from Taurine in Energy Drinks: A shocking study has emerged about popular energy drinks such as red bulls, monsters, and taurine present in Celsius. Research of the University of Rochester’s Wilmot Cancer Institute, which was published on 14 May 2025 in the Nature Journal, suggests that Torin may help grow leukemia (blood cancer) cells.
This study is a warning for leukemia patients and regular energy drinks. Researchers have suggested that further studies are needed to limit the intake of torrence and study more.
What did you get in research?
The Wilmot team led by Biisha Bajaj, PhD found that leukemia cells grow rapidly through glycolitis (process of making energy by breaking glucose) by absorbing torine.
This process can increase the disease three times faster. The SLC6A6 reaches the torine cells through genes, which is made by healthy cells in bone marrow (bone marrow). Leukemia cells do not make torine themselves, rather take it from the micro -venration of bone marrows.
In experiments, cancer grows growing on blocking the absorption of torrein on mice and human leukemia cells. This study is relevant to three types of leukemia-acute meloid leukemia (AML), Chronic Meloid Leukemia (CML), and Myloadesplastic syndromes (MDS).
Researchers said, “Our data suggests that preventing Torreen from reaching leukemia cells may be new treatment.”
What is Torreen?
Naturally formed in the body (bone marrow, brain, heart, muscles).
Meat, fish, eggs, and breast milk are found in milk.
Energy drinks (red bull, monster), protein powder, and supplements are mixed.
It is claimed that it provides mental focus, inflammation, and antioxidant properties.
The first torine was considered useful to reduce side effects of chemotherapy (inflammation, fatigue). But new research suggests that it can make the disease more aggressive by fueling leukemia cells.
