Vaccine Maitri: India delivered vaccine to 42 African countries during Covid crisis

New Delhi, May 13 (IANS). A special post has been shared on the official X account of ‘Indian Diplomacy’ regarding India’s ‘Vaccine Maitri’ initiative. The post read, “Based on the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the whole world is one family), the ‘Vaccine Maitri’ initiative once again reiterates its commitment to support partner countries around the world during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A video has also been shared with the post, highlighting the long-standing cooperation between India and Africa, citing the India-Africa Forum Summit and the Enduring Partnership-Shared Vision. It was told in the video that in the year 2020, when the whole world was struggling with the Corona epidemic and there was an acute shortage of vaccine, India played the role of the first country to come forward for help.

It was told in the video that ‘Vaccine Maitri’ was a symbol of India’s sense of responsibility and humanity towards the world. India delivered more than 4 crore doses of Made-in-India vaccine to 42 countries in Africa. These included Botswana, Kenya, South Africa, Mauritius, Egypt, Nigeria, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe and many other countries.

The video also showed that during the most difficult phase of the pandemic, India not only thought about its own citizens, but also gave priority to the needs of other countries. Through the message of ‘Together and stronger at every step’, it was also told that the relations between India and Africa are not limited to diplomacy only, but are based on mutual trust and cooperation.

In the video, Prime Minister Narendra Modi says that India feels both proud and humbled by the fact that the vaccine made in India is reaching countries around the world. “We want to not just provide treatment but also help humanity,” he said.
