Caracas, July 5 (IANS). India played the role of a responsible nation in the twin devastating earthquakes in Venezuela. Like a good friend extended a helping hand. Indian medical teams were dispatched under ‘Operation Amistad’ and are continuously providing relief. The victims are also happy with this assistance and are expressing gratitude for the medical services being provided at the Indian Army Field Hospital.
In a video shared on the social media platform X by India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), many people were seen praising the Indian doctors and medical team.
Lizette Rodriguez, mother of a patient, said, “I admitted my son Anthony Aguilarte to the Indian Army Field Hospital for treatment of femur fracture. The thought was that the best medical team would treat my child well and it did. Thank you to the Indian government and the medical team for helping us in this difficult time.”
Similarly, another injured Yoe Garcia said that after suffering serious injuries to his hands and legs in the earthquake, the Indian medical team successfully operated on him, due to which he is now fine.
Sharing the pictures, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the Indian Army’s field hospital is serving as a symbol of “humanity and service”.
Indian Army’s ADGPI said the field hospital is functioning round the clock and providing surgery, trauma care and emergency medical services. The statement said the mission reflects India’s strong commitment to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR).
So far, about 2,954 people have died in Venezuela due to two earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 that occurred on June 24, while thousands have been injured and rendered homeless. The government has set up 80 temporary camps for relief operations and thousands of rescue workers are engaged in relief and search operations.
