Want to get rid of back pain and sciatica? Practice Shalabhasana daily

New Delhi, December 19 (IANS). Yogasanas play an important role in making our body and mind healthy. Among these, Shalabhasana is an important yoga asana, which strengthens the spine along with strengthening the body.

Shalabhasana is one of the most effective asanas of Hatha Yoga. ‘Shalabh’ is a Sanskrit word, which means ‘grasshopper’. Actually, the last posture of the asana is similar to a grasshopper, due to which it is called Shalabhasana. Regular practice of this energizes the body and provides relief from many physical problems.

To do Shalabhasana, first lie down on your stomach on the yoga mat. Extend your arms forward, palms facing up and legs straight. The forehead or chin is touching the ground. Take a deep breath and stabilize the body. While exhaling, slowly raise both the legs together. Keep the legs straight and do not bend the knees. Along with this, the hands also have to be raised upwards. This is somewhat like the Superman pose.

Wait in this position for 10-30 seconds. Keep breathing normally. After this, slowly bring the legs and chest to the ground and relax.

According to the Ministry of AYUSH, Shalabhasana strengthens the back muscles. Provides relief from back pain and sciatica, increases lung capacity and helps in reducing fat in thighs and buttocks, thereby providing physical strength and mental peace. It is especially beneficial for those who work sitting for hours.

Shalabhasana also benefits the abdomen and helps digestion. It should be done with caution in case of severe pain in the lower back.

However, many types of health problems can be cured by regular practice of asanas, but those who have serious health problems or have undergone any surgery, then they should avoid doing these yoga asanas.
