New Delhi, November 7 (IANS). You must have often heard that due to thyroid someone has gained weight or is not losing weight, but do you know what is the real reason behind this and how the weight can be controlled? Let us know from Ayurveda.
Thyroid is a small gland present in our neck, but its function is very big. It controls our body’s metabolism i.e. energy and digestion speed. When this gland does not produce enough hormones, it is called hypothyroidism. In this condition, the metabolic speed of the body slows down, fat burning decreases and weight gradually increases.
According to Ayurveda, this problem is related to the imbalance of Kapha and Vata dosha, which leads to heaviness, lethargy and increased accumulation of water in the body.
Many natural remedies have been suggested in Ayurveda, which balance the thyroid and speed up the metabolism. First comes Trikatu powder, which contains dry ginger, black pepper and pippali. Together, all three increase digestive power and help in melting frozen fat. It can be taken with half a teaspoon of honey in the morning and evening.
After this, Kanchanar Guggulu is a famous Ayurvedic medicine, which reduces the inflammation of the thyroid gland and balances the hormone secretion. It can be taken 1-2 tablets daily as per doctor’s advice.
Triphala powder is also very effective in thyroid. It is a mixture of Amla, Harad and Baheda, which helps in reducing weight by cleansing the body. Take it with lukewarm water before sleeping at night. Guggulu Kalp and Giloy-Neem juice reduce phlegm in the body and maintain hormonal balance. These also strengthen the immune system.
Coriander water is very popular among home remedies. Boiling coriander soaked overnight and drinking lukewarm water in the morning improves the secretion of thyroid hormone and reduces swelling. Drinking lemon-honey water i.e. lukewarm water with lemon and honey in the morning is also beneficial for weight loss.
Yoga is very important for thyroid patients. Asanas like Sarvangasana, Matsyasana, Bhujangasana, Dhanurasana, Ujjayi Pranayam and Kapalbhati activate the thyroid gland and improve blood circulation.
Include satvik and hot substances in your diet, like moong, garlic, ginger, fenugreek seeds, cinnamon and soup. Do not eat cold, sweet and fried things at all. Get enough sleep, reduce stress and don’t forget to walk for 30 minutes every day.
