New Delhi, March 27 (IANS). For those doing yoga, not only asanas and pranayam are important, but their food habits are also equally important. If you are a yoga practitioner, then you should take special care of what you are eating and what not. With the right diet, not only the body remains light and energetic, but the mind also remains calm and concentrated.
Satvik food is considered best for yoga practitioners, i.e. food which is light, pure and easily digestible, like wheat, rice, barley, moong dal and Sathi rice. All these things give energy to the body. Apart from this, sweet and nutritious foods like milk, ghee, butter, honey and sugar candy are also considered good for yoga practitioners. These give strength to the body and help in spiritual practice.
Fruits and green vegetables are also very important. Vegetables like Parwal, Bathua, Amarnath (Amaranth), Jeevanti and Punarnava provide essential nutrients to the body and keep the digestion healthy. Eating fresh fruits maintains water and energy in the body. As far as possible, pure and clean water should be drunk. In ancient times, even pure rain water was considered very good.
Now let us talk about those things which yoga practitioners should avoid. First of all, excessive spicy, sour, salty and bitter food should be reduced. Eating too spicy and hot food can cause imbalance in the body, which can also cause the mind to become disturbed. Apart from this, food cooked in excess oil, excessive use of mustard and sesame seeds is also not considered right.
Those doing yoga should also stay away from things like non-vegetarian food and alcohol. Fish, goat meat and alcohol make the body heavy and can hinder sadhana. Apart from this, the consumption of things like garlic, asafoetida, very sour things, curd, buttermilk and horseradish should also be limited, because these can affect the digestion and mental stability.
