New Delhi, January 31 (IANS). Vomiting is a very common and uncomfortable problem for people of any age. Sometimes it is only due to mild stomach discomfort, sometimes it can also be a sign of some serious disease. There can be many reasons behind vomiting and it is important to understand so that the right treatment can be given at the right time.
The most common reasons are stomach problems, such as food not being digested properly, stomach upset due to burnt or excessively spicy food or infection due to bacteria and viruses in the food. Apart from this, gas, acidity or food poisoning can also cause vomiting. Sometimes headache or migraine, excessive stress, anxiety, or sudden smell or food item also cause nausea.
Another major cause of vomiting can be dehydration or lack of water and minerals in the body. It can be more dangerous in children and the elderly, because their body becomes weak quickly. Nausea and vomiting in the morning are also common in women due to hormonal changes during pregnancy.
Vomiting is viewed in many ways in Ayurveda. Imbalance of Vayu, Pitta and Kapha causes stomach problems and can lead to vomiting. Among Ayurvedic measures, first of all it is considered very important to keep the body hydrated and eat light food. Adding some cardamom powder to coconut water and drinking it slowly is comfortable for both the stomach and digestive system. Drinking hot ginger tea reduces nausea and keeps the stomach calm.
Eating light and easy food like boiled or puffed rice, or rice water is also very beneficial. Additionally, home-made ORS (mixing clean water, salt and sugar) should be consumed slowly to maintain the electrolyte balance of the body. In Ayurveda, these remedies prevent the body from becoming weak and speed up recovery.
Apart from this, it is important to give rest to the body at the time of vomiting. Avoid eating heavy food suddenly, drinking too much water at once or eating oily and spicy food. It is better to take water, coconut water or light soup in small sips. Keep in mind that if vomiting is continuous, there is excessive weakness, or symptoms of dehydration are visible in the body, then contact the doctor immediately.
