New Delhi, October 23 (IANS). Garlic not only enhances the taste of food, but it is also a valuable medicine from Ayurvedic point of view. Elements like sulfur, allicin, vitamin B6, magnesium and selenium found in garlic make it extremely useful for health.
In Ayurveda, its properties are considered bitter and pungent, its nature is hot and it pacifies Vata and Kapha dosha. Garlic is mild, pungent and easy to digest, hence it provides many benefits to the body.
Regular consumption of garlic reduces the risk of heart diseases. It clears blockages in the arteries and controls cholesterol and blood pressure. Apart from this, it increases digestion power, increases stomach fire and provides relief in problems like constipation, gas or indigestion. Garlic also strengthens the body’s immunity, which increases its ability to fight cold, cough and infection.
According to Ayurveda, garlic is beneficial in joint pain, arthritis and rheumatism. Its consumption reduces problems related to vata and phlegm. Garlic paste is also considered useful in skin infections, boils and other diseases. In some home remedies, massage with garlic oil provides relief from ear pain and muscle swelling. The mixture of garlic and honey increases immunity and the decoction of garlic is beneficial in cold and cough.
Eating 1-2 raw cloves on an empty stomach, taking garlic with oil or honey or drinking its decoction is very beneficial. Its consumption with regular and balanced Ayurvedic method makes life healthy, energetic and disease free.
However, excessive consumption may cause stomach irritation or sweating due to its extremely hot nature. Pregnant women should consume it only after consulting the doctor.
