World Cancer Day: Prevention is possible, avoid these habits, then include them in your daily routine.

New Delhi, February 4 (IANS). Cancer is such a disease, people get scared the moment they hear its name. Experts believe that this disease can be avoided by adopting right habits and staying away from some bad habits completely. World Cancer Day is celebrated every year on 4 February. This day is dedicated to spreading awareness about cancer across the world, understanding the causes of this disease and focusing on prevention methods.

The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, gives some easy and effective suggestions to prevent cancer, which if included in the daily routine, can significantly reduce the risk. By adopting these small habits, you can not only prevent cancer but can also improve your health.

According to the Ministry, the most important step to prevent cancer is to first stay away from tobacco and all its products (cigarettes, gutkha, beedi, pan masala, hookah etc.). Tobacco is one of the biggest causes of cancer, especially mouth, lung, throat and stomach cancer. Second, keep your body weight balanced. Obesity increases the risk of many types of cancer (breast, intestine, kidney, uterus etc.). Therefore it is very important to maintain a balanced weight.

The third important thing is regular exercise and physical activities. Walking, yoga, cycling or any physical exercise for at least 30-45 minutes daily reduces the risk of cancer.

At the same time, increase the intake of fruits, vegetables and nutritious food. Eating colorful fruits and vegetables, whole grains, pulses, nuts and less processed foods increases antioxidants in the body, which help in fighting cancer cells.

The most important thing to prevent cancer is to get regular health checkups done. Get timely screening like mammography, pap smear, colonoscopy done as per doctor’s advice. Cancer can be caught in the early stages, making treatment easier and successful.
