The main benefits of meditation are as follows- Meditation is very helpful in reducing stress. It increases concentration and focus as well as helps maintain emotional balance. It improves blood pressure and heart health by improving sleep quality.
Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga cites three main types of meditation, citing ancient yoga texts, which are described in the Gheranda Samhita. These types are according to the level of seekers.
Physical meditation:- It focuses on the corporeal or physical form, like meditation on the idol of Guru or Ishta Dev. It is best suited for beginning meditators, as it is easier to visualize the concrete form.
Jyotirmaya Dhyana:- In this, self-light or light beam Brahma is meditated. It is considered a hundred times superior to gross meditation, because it works at a more subtle and internal level.
Subtle meditation:- It focuses on Bindumayi Brahma or Kundalini Shakti. According to Gheranda Samhita, it is a million times superior to luminous meditation and is for higher level sadhana.
These types are linked to the ancient tradition of yoga and help to advance meditation in a systematic manner. In today’s stressful era, meditation is a simple way to prevent mental and physical diseases. Meditating for a few minutes every day can bring positive changes in life.
