Yoga will be recognized as a sport through the first World Yogasana Championship: Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Ahmedabad, June 4 (IANS). ‘First World Yogasana Championship’ is being organized in Ahmedabad from June 4 to June 8. This is the first championship of its kind in yoga. Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated the championship through virtual medium on Thursday. On this occasion, he said that Yoga will get recognition as a sport through the first World Yogasana Championship.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Every life tradition enters a new phase with time. This World Championship of Yogasana is the beginning of this phase. Through this championship, Yogasana will get a new identity as a competitive sport. I am confident that in future Yogasana will also make its place in international sports competitions.”

The PM said, “Another new chapter is being added to the world’s sports heritage from the land of Ahmedabad. The first World Yoga Championship is starting. I welcome all the participants who have come to India to take part in this championship. I extend my best wishes. Ahmedabad is a UNESCO World Heritage City. This event is a matter of pride in this historic city of India. World Yoga Day will be celebrated on June 21. On this day, there will be programs related to yoga in different countries of the world. This time the main program will be another one from India. To be held in the historical city of Kolkata, the World Yoga Championship is like a double dose of health and wellness before the World Yoga Day.

Participants from more than 60 countries are taking part in the first World Yogasana Championship. Addressing the participants, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India has started Yoga 365. I would also urge all the players participating in this World Yogasana Championship. When you return to your countries, return with the message of Yoga. All of you can become ambassadors of ‘Yoga 365’ in your countries. Your experience and your faith can connect the entire world with this message. No matter who wins this competition, all of you are already champions by participating in this competition. Your talent and discipline will inspire the youth across the world. I congratulate all the participants and organizers with these good wishes.”
