Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed deep condolence over the tragic incident in Karnataka’s Chitradurga district, in which 10 people lost their lives.
In a message shared through the official Twitter handle of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), PM Modi expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
In the wake of this tragedy, the Prime Minister announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of the deceased. Additionally, Rs 50,000 will be given to those injured in the incident.
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of life and property in the accident in Chitradurga district of Karnataka. My deepest sympathies to all those who lost their loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh will be given to the kin of each deceased from PMNRF. Rs 50,000 will be given to the injured: PM Narendra Modi,” the PMO wrote on X Post.
This morning, a tragic accident occurred on National Highway 48 near Gorlathu village in Hiriyur taluk of Chitradurga district, where a private bus going from Bengaluru to Shivamogga collided with a lorry.
Due to the collision, the sleeper coach bus caught fire. According to initial reports, more than 10 people are feared dead in the fire.
Nine other people narrowly escaped, while several others were injured. He has been admitted to hospitals in Hiriyur and Chitradurga for treatment.
The truck going from Hiriyur to Bengaluru allegedly crossed the divider, leading to the collision. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Hiriyur rural police station.
The rescue operation is currently underway and officials are awaiting further information. However, the cause of the accident is still uncertain.
