Preparations for the final farewell ceremony of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei are underway at the Grand Mosallah in Tehran. However, according to the latest information, this program which was supposed to start from Wednesday night has been postponed for the time being. Government officials have taken this decision citing huge crowd and security reasons. Currently, 40 days of national mourning and 7 days of government holiday have been declared in Iran.

Why was the final farewell ceremony postponed and what are the new rules?

Hojjatul Islam Seyed Mohsen Mahmoud, head of Iran’s Islamic Propagation Coordination Council, said that there is a need to further strengthen the infrastructure to accommodate the crowd expected to number in the millions. Apart from this, the delay is also being done in view of the ongoing air strikes and security risks in the area.
