With the beginning of December, cold has started showing its severe form in the capital Delhi. A huge drop in temperature has been recorded and the Meteorological Department has issued a warning for the coming days.

Yellow alert issued: The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert of ‘Cold Wave’ in Delhi for the next three days.

Drastic drop in temperature: A sharp drop in the minimum temperature was recorded on 1 December (the first day of December).

Colder than normal: In many areas of Delhi, the minimum temperature was 4.5 degrees Celsius or more below normal.

Mercury has gone much below normal in various areas:

Safdarjung: minimum temperature 5.7°C (4.6°C less than normal).

Ridge: minimum temperature 7.5°C (5.5°C less than normal).

Ayanagar: minimum temperature 6.5°C (5.5°C less than normal).

Why did the cold suddenly increase?

The main reason behind this severe cold is the snowfall on the mountains:

Western Disturbance: Due to this there has been snowfall in the higher Himalayan areas.

Cold winds: Cold winds coming from the mountains have dropped the temperature in entire North India including Delhi.

November trend: This time the month of November was also colder than normal and now the same trend continues in December also.

Caution: Since there is a cold wave warning for the next three days, wear warm clothes while going out of the house and protect yourself from cold.
