30 -year -old Amjad Rahman PK, who works as a restaurant manager in Ajman, Taking a holiday and flew to the state of Kerala in India and donated his stem cells to save the life of a 10 -year -old stranger child there. The child was struggling with a rare disease and Amjad’s stem cell match came up with hope for his life.
Amjad said that he had registered his name in Datri (India’s big stem cell donor registry) 11 years ago, when he was studying in college. He was identified by the same registry and got this opportunity. Amjad said, “When I came to know that my stem cells have matched this child, I thought him the same as my younger brother. My brother is 9 years old and this child is 10 years old. I just know that he is 10 years old and he weighs 31 kg. I don’t know anything, religion or background. And he does not even matter to me.”
Before the stem cell donation, Amjad had to take a course of medicines for four days so that the number of stem cells in the body could increase. After this, he successfully donated stem cells on Friday. The doctors told them that the child whose blood group is O positive will gradually change Amjad’s blood group AB positive. Hearing this, Amjad became very emotional and called it a “special relationship”.
Amjad says that people are often afraid of stem cell donation or have many misconceptions. “Many people stopped me and said that it is harmful to health. But I am absolutely fine and I want to tell everyone that there is no harm from stem cell donation. We should make more people aware of this so that more and more people can save others’ lives if needed.”
Amjad has been active in social work for a long time. He is regularly donating blood from the age of 18. He has also been the district president of the blood donors Kerala (BDK) organization and is now an active member of the UAE Chapter. He helped many people during the Kovid-19 epidemic and in the 2024 floods. His life philosophy is also: “I do not want to live a long life, but as long as I am alive, I want to help more and more people. It is not necessary to have a big job to help, small righteousness and smile also matters a lot in today’s time.”
Amjad has appealed to the people to come forward and save life by donating blood, platelets and stem cells. He said, “We can save someone’s life by donating our limbs even after death. If I ever get a match from a patient, I will happily donate stem sales again.”
