Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticized Congress over 'fabricated documents', targeted Pawan Kheda.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the Congress, alleging that its leaders were resorting to “fraud” and through their actions were pushing party leader Pawan Kheda into legal trouble.

In a post on Twitter, Sarma claimed that the Congress leader, in his frustration, was circulating “completely fabricated documents” through Kheda, which has already been exposed by his team.

“This is no longer politics. This is sheer fraud. The Congress machinery has completely lost its sense of responsibility,” the Chief Minister said. He further asserted that the people of Assam will give a “befitting reply” to the Congress in the coming hours and the party leadership will have to “pay the price” of the alleged betrayal. Congress is yet to react to these allegations.

Earlier on Wednesday, Congress leader Pawan Khera filed a petition in the Telangana High Court for anticipatory bail in connection with a case filed against him in Assam. Khera had leveled allegations against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma at a press conference in the national capital. Both the Chief Minister and his wife have vehemently denied these allegations.

Riniki Bhuyan Sharma had filed an FIR against Khera and Assam Police had conducted searches at his residence on Tuesday. Khera had alleged that the chief minister’s wife held three passports and some assets were not disclosed in Sarma’s election affidavit.

Sharma had said on Tuesday that after the search, Khera fled to Hyderabad. “I have come to know through the media that the police had gone to his residence in Delhi, but he has fled to Hyderabad.”

“The law will take its own course,” he said. Congress leaders have supported Kheda against the attacks by BJP leaders. The brazen attack on Congress leader Pawan Kheda by the BJP only shows their arrogance and guilt.

Every Congress worker, indeed every Indian who believes in the Constitution, who understands that raising questions and challenging authority is the foundation of a strong democracy, stands with the Chief Minister whose house is being looted and who is being targeted by a Chief Minister who has lost his moral right to rule. Party leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said this in a post on X. Voting will be held in Assam on Thursday and the results will be declared on May 4.
