Bahraich Ramgopal Mishra Murder Case Court Verdict: Sarfaraz, convicted of killing Ram Gopal Mishra in Bahraich, sentenced to death, 9 sentenced to life imprisonment

New Delhi. Today the court has given its verdict in the murder case of Ram Gopal Mishra, who was killed in the violence that broke out during Durga Puja immersion in Bahraich in October 2024 last year. Additional Sessions Judge has sentenced the convict Sarfaraz alias Rinku to death, while 9 other convicts have been sentenced to life imprisonment. Along with this, the court has also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh each on all the culprits. Earlier on November 21, the judge had reserved the decision in this case. Two days earlier, on December 9, the court had convicted 10 of the 13 accused and acquitted three due to lack of evidence.

The names of the 9 convicts who have been sentenced to life imprisonment are Abdul Hameed, Faheem, Talib, Saif, Javed Khan, Jishan, Nankau, Shoaib, Maroof Ali. Three accused Shakeel Ahmed, Bablu Afzal alias Kallu and Khurshid have been acquitted. Bahraich Police filed a charge sheet in the court in this case on January 11, 2025, which contained the names of the above 13 accused. Government advocate Pramod Singh said that the trial of this case was completed in just 13 months and 26 days and the verdict was given.

Let us inform that a Durga Puja immersion procession was being taken out on 13 October 2024 in Maharajganj market of Hardi police station area. At the same time some anarchists attacked the procession. During this time, Ram Gopal Mishra, who was participating in the procession, was shot dead. After which violence flared up further and incidents of arson and vandalism took place. The administration had to work hard to control the violence. PAC, CRPF and RAF troops were deployed in the violence-affected areas. After the murder of Ram Gopal, the accused Sarfaraz was trying to escape to Nepal and was arrested by the police after the encounter.
