Due to rising tensions in West Asia and closure of airspace, more than 100 tourists from Hyderabad are stuck in Manama, the capital of Bahrain. The group had gone to Bahrain on February 24 on a four-day tourist visa and were to return on February 28. But due to the sudden missile attacks and security reasons, all flights were cancelled. Now the families of these tourists are pleading the Indian government to bring them back safely.

What is the current situation of Indian tourists stranded in Bahrain?

Tourists released a video from Manama and said that when they reached the airport for check-in, sirens started ringing and the airport was evacuated. The elderly included in this group have run out of essential medicines for diabetes and blood pressure. Local medical stores are refusing to dispense medicines without a prescription from a local doctor. The passengers have also run out of money and are dependent on help being provided by local Telugu migrants.

What steps have the government and airlines taken so far?

The Telangana government has set up a 24/7 control room to help its citizens stranded in the Gulf country. Major airlines like Air India Express and Indigo have currently stopped their flights to Bahrain. Airlines have given passengers the option to reschedule their journey till March 5 at no extra charge or get a full refund.

Main information Details Number of stranded tourists more than 100 (mainly from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh) Flight suspension status Currently, flights likely to remain affected till March 2 Major problem Shortage of medicines and economic crisis Government helpline 24/7 control room of Telangana government active

What are the further options for travelers?

The Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Bahrain are continuously monitoring the situation. Passengers have been advised to keep their identity cards safe and remain in touch with the embassy. As soon as the airspace becomes normal, special arrangements can be made to rescue the stranded people. Air India Express has said that guests who are unable to travel can claim a refund through the company’s website.
