Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar held a meeting with his fellow Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi on Saturday with representatives of all political parties of Bihar in Patna. After this meeting, it is now expected that the Election Commission will announce the dates of Bihar assembly elections next week. Bihar Legislative Assembly has 243 seats and elections are expected to be held in November.

The NDA government is currently in power under the leadership of Nitish Kumar in Bihar. BJP’s JDU is part of BJP, Chirag Paswan’s LJP (Ram Vilas), Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha i.e. Hum and Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Samata Party NDA. At the same time, opposition parties have formed a grand alliance in Bihar. This grand alliance is led by Lalu Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav’s RJD. The grand alliance of the opposition also includes Congress, Left Dal and Mukesh Sahni’s VIP party. The NDA is trying to regain the power of Bihar once again. At the same time, the Grand Alliance hopes that this time its government will be formed in Bihar.

Looking at the results of the last two assembly elections in Bihar, RJD got 75 seats in 2020. BJP was second. BJP got 74 seats in Bihar’s last assembly election, JDU 43, Congress 19, Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM 5 seats. 4 MLAs of AIMIM later moved with RJD. Whereas, Chirag Paswan’s party won 1 seat. Lalu Yadav’s RJD won 80 seats in the 2015 Bihar assembly elections. Then Nitish Kumar’s JDU brought 71 seats. The BJP won 53 seats by the voters of Bihar that year. 27 Congress candidates won. LJP got 2 seats and other and independents got 31 seats.
