There were earlier 7 crore 89 lakh 69 thousand 844 voters in Bihar. Under the SIR process, the name of 65 lakh people was cut from the voter list, after which 7.24 crore voters were left. However, among the people whose names were removed from the voter list, there were either people who have died or were people who no longer lived at that address. The Election Commission says that with the aim of conducting the election in a transparent manner, the SIR process is necessary before the election so that the names of the eligible voters are in the voter list and the names of fake voters can be removed.
The Election Commission released a draft voter list on 1 August 2025. It was said on behalf of the Commission that people whose names could not be included in the list for some reason can add their name to the list within a month. Let us tell you that the opposition strongly opposed the SIR process and deliberately accused the Election Commission of cutting the names of the people from the voter list. At the same time, a petition was also filed in the Supreme Court against SIR. The Supreme Court has also ordered the Election Commission to include Aadhaar as a valid document to add names to the voter list.
