Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid tribute to veteran tribal leader Birsa Munda on his 150th birth anniversary. The Prime Minister remembered the veteran tribal leader for his unique contribution to the country’s freedom movement.

He said that Munda’s struggle and sacrifice against the injustice of foreign rule will continue to inspire every generation of the country. He also extended greetings on the occasion of Jharkhand State Foundation Day, which coincides with the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda. Prime Minister Modi described the state as a land rich in tribal culture and prayed for the progress and prosperity of the region.

On this occasion, PM Modi, while sharing a post on social media ‘X’, wrote that on this auspicious occasion of Tribal Pride Day, the entire country is respectfully remembering the unique contribution of the country’s great freedom fighter Lord Birsa Munda ji in protecting the pride of the motherland. His struggle and sacrifice against the injustice of foreign rule will continue to inspire every generation. He further wrote that hearty greetings to all the residents of the glorious Jharkhand state, rich in tribal culture, on the foundation day of the state. The history of this land of Lord Birsa Munda is full of stories of courage, struggle and self-respect. Today on this special occasion, I along with all my family members in the state wish for the progress and prosperity of the state.

Let us tell you that Jharkhand was formed after separating from Bihar on 15 November 2000, which is the birth anniversary of tribal leader Birsa Munda. Birsa Munda, who belonged to the Munda tribe, was born on 15 November 1875. During the British rule in the late 19th century, he led the Indian tribal religious millenarian movement in the tribal areas of modern-day Bihar and Jharkhand, his birth anniversary is celebrated as Birsa Munda Jayanti across the country.
