The mortal remains of 26-year-old Ravi Gopal, resident of Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh, was brought to his native village Baghain on Wednesday. Ravi died on the night of 18 March 2026 during a suspected missile attack in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He worked as a driver in a plastic factory there and was the only earning member of his family. His body has been brought back with the cooperation of the Indian government and Saudi administration.
What happened during the phone conversation with his wife?
Ravi’s wife Ritu Devi told that she was talking to her husband on the phone at around 9:30 pm on March 18. During the conversation, suddenly there was a loud bang and the phone call got disconnected. According to the Saudi Defense Ministry, ballistic missiles were intercepted in Riyadh that night. The attack took place very close to the place where Ravi worked, due to which he lost his life.
Return of the dead body to the country and plea of the victim’s family
Ravi’s elder brother Manmohan Dayal recovered the body with the help of the administration in Lucknow on Wednesday morning and brought it to the village. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has expressed grief over the incident and the Indian Mission in Saudi completed the process of repatriating the body. Ravi leaves behind his wife and a four-year-old son and now the family has demanded financial compensation from the government.
